Another Friday, another remote production.
Another Friday, another remote production.
For the first time in a very long time I started writing a song today. Not an ambient chord progression experiment, not some synth fiddling, but an actual alternative rock song with soaring guitars, pounding drums and lyrics about heartbreak.
To be clear, nothing about it is done yet and long time (really long time) readers of the blog will know that the biggest hurdle for me is always the lyrics. My inability to write lyrics have resulted in a lot of thrown away melody lines and riffs, but this time I’ve got a very clear theme for the lyrics and a persona to write them from. I also have a basic melody, some guitar parts and the outline of an arrangement and instrumentation.
I guess this counts as my ”doing something fun at work” this week, since I worked from home today and the song writing happened when I was about to start working.
Today was in many ways the most average of average days at work. I did some administrative tasks, my weekly review, some scheduling for an upcoming course, some planning for stuff coming up later in the spring and held a short lecture.
After that I headed home and had an average afternoon with the kids and Linn.
Since nothing really stood out I also didn’t take any pictures today so I’m kind of bending my own rules today and I am posting a screen shot instead of a photo. Here’s my current home screen, something that I’m fiddling with quite a lot at the moment.
This weekend Linn’s parents and her grandma visited us. We had a good time and today they went home again. Also, Iris was at a birthday party for a friend and then all of us played out in the snow so there wasn’t really any time to take many pictures, so this photo of my Irish coffee will have to do. (Yes, that is indeed blue cream.)
Linn and I also finished the first (and so far only) season of You on Netflix.
Iris has made a dress out of Play-Doh for one of her Anna dolls, inspired by one of her favorite YouTube channels.
Both today and yesterday I managed to squeeze in some time to play guitar, something that I haven’t done properly in quite a while. Now my fingers hurt!
This is me wearing the headsets of two different intercom systems. I took the photo today while connecting the intercoms to our Dante system to enable communication via the intercoms between our tv studio and a remote location 30 km away. In the end it worked, but intercoms are terrible to work with.
There seems to be a common theme to a lot of these daily photos. Lots of tv after the kids been put to bed. On weeknights that’s pretty much all we have energy for and a good way to unwind.
Right now we’re watching You on Netflix. Decent get-out-of-your-own-head television.
Today I tried the SPL Transient Designer for real for the first time. We used it to get some extra punch in a snare drum and the result was very good.
I’m bringing my pedalboard to work tomorrow, so I made some substitutions of pedals to better suit the ambient/industrial/metal-thingy we’re doing. I replaced the Polytune and Echo Park with a Nano Muff and Heavy Metal.
