Tåg som lätt spårar ur – DN.SE

posted this article on

Hypercritical: The Road to Geekdom

posted this article on

Geekdom is not a club; it’s a destination, open to anyone who wants to put in the time and effort to travel there. And if someone lacks the opportunity to get there, we geeks should help in any way we can. Take a new friend to a meetup or convention. Donate your old games, movies, comics, and toys. Be welcoming. Sharing your enthusiasm is part of being a geek.1

This is such a great post by John Siracusa. Geekdom should be inclusive and it’s up to us geeks/nerds to make and keep it that way. Nobody should ever feel like they can’t be a ”true” geek because they arrived late to something.

Daring Fireball: Lightning, the Epitome of Apple

posted this article on

A few days ago Gruber wrote a great post about the Lightning connector and how it epitomizes what makes Apple Apple.

To the company’s fans, it provides elegance and convenience — it’s just so much nicer than micro-USB. To the company’s detractors, it exists to sell $29 proprietary adapters and to further enable Apple’s fetish for device thinness. Neither side is wrong.1

Sverigedemokrat hotfull mot Makthavareskribent

posted this article on

Isaac Asimov’s ”The Last Question”

posted this article on

In fifty years [Isaac Asimov] averaged a new magazine article, short story, or book every two weeks, and most of that on a manual typewriter. Asimov thought that The Last Question, first copyrighted in 1956, was his best short story ever.1

If you have any kind of interest in science fiction you should definitely read Isaac Asimovs short story The Last Question. I read it yesterday and I think it’s really great.

One year since Steve Jobs passed away

Steve’s passing one year ago today was a sad and difficult time for all of us. I hope that today everyone will reflect on his extraordinary life and the many ways he made the world a better place.1

Tim Cook has left a message on apple.com in memory of Steve Jobs. Beautiful.

Internet Explorer 10 launches on 10/26/2012, and as a result, we will discontinue support for Internet Explorer 8 shortly afterwards, on 11/15/2012.1

That’s great news.

The German Pirate Party has problems

posted this article on

The third reason behind the Pirates’ malaise is the fact that mishaps are taking their toll. When Schlömer, the party boss, called upon the 45 Pirate representatives in state parliaments to make a financial contribution to the party’s national organization, he slammed against a wall of refusals. So the issue of solving the party’s massive money problem was just put off for another day. But this means that many party candidates will lack the funds they need to run professional campaigns for next year’s federal and state elections. What’s more, almost half of the party’s members have yet to pay their annual membership fee.1

What? Are members of a party based on the notion that you should be able to take the stuff you want for free not willing to pay for stuff?

Who would have guessed that?

Don’t replace the core experience!

posted this article on

Additionally, based on feedback after the original blog post, we felt it was important to clarify one thing about user tokens and the 100,000 user token limit. The 100,000 user token limit applies only to the small set of clients replicating the core Twitter experience. It does not apply to the majority of other applications in the broader ecosystem.1

Wow, thanks for clarifying that. So we don’t need to worry about the 100,000 token limit since it only applies to the things we want to use and totally doesn’t affect the things that you want us to use.

That’s just great!
