The fact that my phone throws up notifications with the actual text ”notification” instead of what it’s supposed to notify me about, that is an iOS 13 bug, right?

Iris, my four year old, has convinced herself lately that she loves Star Wars. A few years ago she got a book called ”When Rey met BB-8” which is a child-appropriate version of the scenes in ”The Force Awakens” where Rey is introduced and where she mets BB-8. The book ends just prior to Unkhar Plot’s goons trying to steal BB-8.
I’ve read that book to her a lot and she knows that I really like Star Wars, so I think that is why she really wants to like it as well. So a few weeks ago, after getting tired of reading that book *every night*, I suggested that we’d try to find a comic book version of the whole film and read that. So we bought that from Comixology and since then, whenever I’m the one reading to her at night, we’ve slowly made our way through ”The Force Awakens*
Tonight we read the lightsaber duel between Rey and Kylo Ren and I asked her if she wanted to see it in the movie, which she did. So we watched that scene on the iPad and at least according to herself, she liked it and thought it was exciting but not scary.
So fingers crossed that she won’t have nightmares tonight and that she still wants to like Star Wars tomorrow.
So I guess this is the single most important piece of tech I own right now. It’s a good thing that it fits in the guitar pick pocket on my jeans.
Night mode on the iPhone 11 is simply fantastic.
If DHL keeps its promise, tomorrow will be New iPhone Day!

The forty millimeter, aluminum, silver Apple Watch with a Milanese loop does look very good in the pictures. Maybe it might look just as good in my wrist?
@MrHenko We eagerly await photos of it on your wrist.
Two weeks ago I was away on a work trip and I decided to try to capture footage to potentially make a vlog out of. Here’s some lessons I learned.
So no, there won’t be a finished vlog this time but is was fun to try.
Tonight I started playing ”Link’s Awakening” on the Switch. This is one of the games that I didn’t play as a kid, so I have zero nostalgia for it. I think that was why I had a hard time getting into it when I played it in Virtual Console on the 3DS.
It seems like the Switch version will hook me more, but it does to me like a 3DS game than a Switch game. I guess this one will shine more in handheld more than in TV mode.
I’m looking for a self-hosted alternative to iCloud photo sharing for private photo sharing with the family, and I need your help finding it.
Here’s what’s great about iCloud sharing:
The main problem is that it is exclusive to the Apple ecosystem. That excludes part of the family. If I’m going to change things up it would also be nice if the new solution was hosted on a server controlled by me.
So, a self-hosted alternative to iCloud photo sharing, with apps for viewing on both iOS and Android. Any recommendations are much appreciated.
@MrHenko I don’t know if it has everything on your list, but the Synology NAS software has two different tools for storing and sharing photos and albums. One is called Photostation and the other is Moments. I use my NAS for storing/backing up photos from iDevices but I don’t use it for sharing so I’m not sure how close a match it is.
That sounds interesting, but am I right in assuming it’s for the Synology NAS only? I currently don’t use a NAS (I have an old Drobo gathering dust on a shelf) and I was hoping to solve this with either my Linode or an always on MacMini.
@MrHenko Yes, that is for their NAS.
Then that’s not exactly the right solution now, but your post gave me an idea. I seem to recall FreeNAS being a software based NAS, and there are probably other similar products as well. Maybe one of those has a photo sharing feature.

Writer 2: ”Oh, oh, oh, I know. Let’s get the dial tone villain from Guardians in it as well!

8 oktober, 2019 13:30@MrHenko Are you using an iPhone X or later? My understanding was that it did that by default until it recognises your face and reveals the text in the notification. Have I misunderstood?
